Editor's Corner

We’re bringing on some new faces this summer, names you’ll see in the coming weeks as they transition from orientation to regular reporting.

Mark Williams started last week as our county government/agriculture reporter. Mark is a recent graduate of the UI College of Law, with a bachelor’s in comm from UI and some experience with the Argonaut and the Daily News. Current county reporter Devin Rokyta will offer some guidance and direction in terms of the beat, and then Devin will move to our sports department and assume the WSU athletics beat.

* Halley Griffin, who graduated from the University of Washington, will arrive Monday to begin as the Idaho education reporter. Halley as worked for the UW Daily and done an internship at the Seattle Weekly.

* Yesenia Amaro also will start Monday to take over the Washington education beat. Yesenia graduated from Cal State University, Los Angeles, in June 2007, and has worked at the Spanish weekly publication in Everett, Wash., La Raza del Noreste and for a Spanish language television station in Redmond, Wash.

We’re excited to have them on board and can’t wait for them to get to know the communities of the Palouse.

I’m pleased to see that Mark Williams has joined your staff. However, a slight correction on his qualifications: His degree is not in “comm” (communication). He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the School of Journalism and Mass Media. He’ll be a great addition to the Daily News, and I look forward to seeing more of his articles.

    Kenton,
Thanks for the correction, sorry about that error. We’re excited to have Mark, Halley and Yesenia aboard.
