The price of gas and a lot of hot air

Editor's Corner

AAA Idaho sent out a news release this afternoon noting that gas prices nationally had dropped 6 cents in the last week. Prices in the Gem State, however, remained the same.

In the same release, AAA notes the possiblity of gas dropping below $4 a gallon was a real possibility — of course, then it reminded everyone we haven’t seen $3/gallon gas for a long time.

The price of fuel catches everyone everywhere. Having just returned from a trip over to Seattle (yes, that makes me a transplant), the cost of that trip almost made my stomach hurt. It’s a heckuva lot different than it was when I first came over in 1994.

From the newspaper’s perspective, it just seems like we can’t cover the impact of gas prices enough. At the same time, it seems like we might be bordering on overkill.

Is there an angle to the gas price story you haven’t seen at DNews.com that you would like to? Or, have we covered the issue plenty already?

  1. Dale Says:

    Steve,

We just paid $3.49 for gas in Springfield, Missouri.

A couple questions, perhaps worth some investigative journalism:

    1. Why is gas so expensive in Idaho?
    2. Why is gas so much more expensive in Moscow than in Lewiston?

We’ve always been amazed that red-state Idaho, where the gas taxes are not extreme, has fuel costs so high.

    Best,
    Dale
