Spoiler alert

The Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games is an amazing spectacle to behold. As such, you’ll see photos from the Beijing event in this afternoon’s print edition of the Daily News.
If you zip over the AP video player on the DNews.com home page, you can watch those same ceremonies. Or, you can wait until 8 p.m. tonight when NBC will televise the tape-delayed pageantry in prime time.
It seems only fair, though, to let readers of our newspaper and our web site know that we don’t plan to tape delay the results from the Olympics. Given the difference in time zones, that means you could find results from a day’s event before you sit down in front of the television.
I mention this here (and I’ll do the same in print for Saturday’s edition) because we usually get a call or two during the Olympic Games from readers who didn’t want to know who won the 100 meters, or whether the Team USA dominated on the basketball court.
We cover things as they happen, not to spoil an evening of television for anyone but because that’s how we present information. My hope is that you’ll be able to enjoy the Olympics, the newspaper and DNews.com without too much trouble.

Steve,
If your readers are interested, they can watch the videos as they occur without waiting for the time delay.

Dale,
Thanks for the additional link. The Web definitely provides another outlet for people who want to watch events live. Of course, I’ll watch a good number of events even if I know who won. There are some great moments over the course of competition.
