Crazy for “Mad Men”
By WordPress on Tue, Sep 16, 2008
Up until a couple weeks ago, I had never heard of the wonderous show they call “Mad Men.” A coworker was talking about the show about the drama surrounding New York ad men set in the 1960s and how “racy” it was. Naturally I had to tune in. I was delighted by what I found: witty dialogue, glamous big city living, the retro feel, the less than squeaky clean lives of the characters, and yes, I’ll admit, the clothes. For any vintage clothes junkie, “Mad Men” is a dream come true. Sleek silhouettes, pencil skirts, full skirts… I could go on, but I wouldn’t probably hold most people’s interest.

But beyond the fashion and the affairs is a very different feel than the “retro” shows like “Leave it to Beaver.” The three martini lunches (and constant drinking), the shocking way women are treated by their male counterparts and society, the unhappy suburban housewife, the philandering and the way wives turned their heads are enough to keep my attention, and intrigue and repulse me.
So check it out. Watch the latest season of “Mad Men” currently on AMC or rent it from your favorite movie rental store on Netflix.
