Icky smurfs
By Sandra Kelly on Sat, Nov 15, 2008
Boise State has been on my radar screen for 30 years, and not a day, an hour or minute has been spent thinking nice thoughts about them.
Needless to say, I don’t know anyone who dislikes the Broncos more than I do. I loathe them. I want them to get beat every time they hit the turf, court, course or pool.
I’ve heard some people say they’d like to see a team from the WAC play in another BCS game, and if it happens to be BSU, oh well, at least the conference is being well represented.
WHATEVER!
When the Broncos won the Fiesta Bowl I nearly cried - out of anger. I was sickened. My world seemed to suddenly stop turning. I hope I never have to see, hear or imagine a situation like that again.
So go Vandals. Beat the Broncos. Shatter their BCS dreams. Crush their little smurf spirits. Grind their cantaloupe uniforms into the turf like squashed melon. If ever there was a time for an upset it’s now.
Find that Vandal mojo and go.

Oh my, we have some rather serious issues don’t we? I hope tonight’s annual Vandal thrashing kept your ‘hate BSU” wounds wide open. Get a life lady!

Wounds are opened up, but BSU showed their class yet again when they took a mallet to the I. It was a poor, classless demonstration by the Broncos — no surprise.

I wish they hadn’t done that, but Vandal fans shouldn’t throw rocks from glass houses. At the end of the day, it’s just one more win against a terrible, albeit, pseudo, WAC team.

Sandra, back in 1996 the Vandals beat Boise on the smurf turf. After the game the ENTIRE Vandal team came out and danced on the BSU logo. At the time, BSU head coach Pokey Allan was dying of cancer.
It was just another shining example of class-less Vandal antics. Keep drinking the moonshine lady, because then maybe the memory of past sins will fade away just like your teams (and fans) expectations…

Really? It’s just a football game. So he hit the I, does that make UI a crappy school? No. Should Martin have done that? Probably not. What needs to change is the “hate BSU” week. I think that the “hate BSU” slogan is the reason why you guys take this thing so personally. It fosters bad sportsmanship from the fans and the players. It is part of the reason that this rivalry is so nasty and mean spirited. It makes the rivalry less fun because no one likes a sore loser. You should be proud of the way your team played in that game, they gave BSU their best shot. Don’t tarnish their effort with your bitterness.

U of I spends way too much time hating BSU. They go to other home games and do anti-Bronco cheers. They have anti-BSU shirts printed for game-day. I attended the game in the Kibbie Dome 2 years ago in my orange Bronco shirt (my wife in her Vandal shirt-we have 2 Vandal grads and 1 double BSU grad so we split the loyalties.)and my son (dressed in his Vandal garb) feared for my safety and had to intervene with an out of control student who he felt was threatening me.
It’s Karma baby! spend more time supporting your team, less time hating your enemies, maybe your team will start to play up to their potential.

Sandra sweetheart - Reading your little blog makes me laugh.

Oh so BSU is “classless” now eh? Granted I don’t think the hammer should have hit the logo, because I remember how disrespectful I thought it was that the vandals danced on our logo. However, if you want to discuss class-leave Bronco Nation alone and talk about it with the 70% of the vandal players that refused to shake hands after the game. Lady-you have NO right to question anyones class!

If I had to live in Moscow I would be bitter as well.
November 16th, 2008 at 10:54 am
This is so funny. You HATE Boise State? Not only is Moscow an ugly town, your college is known nationwide as ridiculous in athletics and academically kids across the West and even in Idaho don’t want to go to that school. Seriously Sandy!

This made me laugh. I almost feel bad for Vandal fans, because I really don’t know if there is any light at the end of this tunnel. Boise State may never lose to the vandals again. At least not for a long time.

Sandra,
Your article oozes classlessness. You are an embarrassment to a fine university (U of I). As a neutral fan, I find your resentment & hatred of a BSU disturbing. You might consider seeking help for your deep rooted issues…
November 16th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Why would any one feel bad for the Vandals? 2 more years and the Vandals will not have anything to talk abaout anymore. live the dream Vandal nation and keep telling me that at least you won 12 years in a row over us. like I said 2 more years and that will be gone as well. I guess this Jr college down by the river knows how to live now and all the Vandals know what to do is be idiots and live in the past GO BSU!!!!

In refering to the Vandals only hopes of winning as, “an upste” I am glad that Sandra saw the game as it really was… a crappy po-dunk “university” where the only good JD it serves is Jack Daniels, against the only state university (sorry ISU) that has a future. Yes, BSU’s noteriety has come from its football, but lets not forget that BSU is quickly increasing research grants, academic programs, and oh yeah, has the highest admissions class of ALL public institutions in Idaho. Go Bronocos.

Sandra.. you seriously have issues and need to get a life. Why is it that a lot vandall fans are obsessed with BSU to the point that it is really unhealthy. While most BSU fans see the vandalls as little pests that they want to go away and never be heard from again. They keep beating them down hoping never to see them again, but they just keep coming back for another beat down. Pretty much all BSU fans can’t wait to get out of the WAC to get better opponents and never have to deal with that little school up north again.

Hey Sandra, your quick exit says volumes about your ‘true’ grit. You talk smack and then bolt when it gets flipped back your way.
Whatever!
For the record, here’s how BSU handled Saturday ‘hammertime’ nonsense … and here’s how a classy coach deals with it…
###
The offensive line won the Hammer for its performance in Saturday’s win against Idaho — but almost didn’t get to carry the Hammer onto the field for the Nevada game.
Tailback Doug Martin “Hammered” the Idaho logo Saturday, a display that was a hot topic in a team meeting Sunday.
“I don’t think anyone knew that was going to happen,” Petersen said of the pregame display that fired up the Vandals. “I don’t think Doug knew that was going to happen. I think it was a spur of the moment bad decision. … The Hammer was very close to getting grounded for the rest of the season.”

I’m not sure why the bSU faithful are so worked up over this sportswriter’s blog that happens to come from the hometown of the “podunk” “pseudo WAC” team . . . Still a bit of an inferiority complex from those in the blue and orange?
It’s all in good fun, and bSU is enjoying the upswing . . . for now.
Who do you hate? boise State!
