Kid Lovers Pizza

Food

This might not be the healthiest recipe, but I couldn’t resist passing it along.  The recipe was in the latest issue of Taste of Home’s “Simple & Delicious” magazine.

“Kids love this recipe,” writes contributor Jenny Staniec of Oak Grove, Minn.  “What could be better than pizza and mac ‘n’ cheese all in one meal?”

Staniec notes that toppings are easily changed to suit individual tastes.

I’m not a kid, but the combination sounded pretty good to me!

Macaroni & Cheese Pizza

• 1 7-1/4 ounce carton macaroni and cheese dinner mix

• 2 eggs, beaten

• ½ pound bulk Italian sausage

• ¼ cup chopped onion

• 1 8-ounce can tomato sauce

• 1 teaspoon dried basil

• 1 teaspoon dried oregano

• 1 4-ounce can mushroom stems and pieces, drained

• 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Prepare the macaroni dinner mix according to package directions, stir in eggs.  Spread on a greased 12-inch pizza pan.  Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook sausage and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.

In a small bowl, combine the tomato sauce, basil and oregano.  Spread over macaroni mixture.  Layer with sausage mixture, mushrooms and cheese.  Bake 10 minutes longer or until cheese is melted.

Makes 8 servings.
