Oscar bash

Pulse A&E

Those who know me know I can’t resist a good old-fashioned awards show blog. And since last night was the daddy of them all — The Oscars, a blogging I will go.
In an Oscar ceremony that promised me something completely new and different, I wasn’t all that impressed with the changes, but the glitz and the glamour was all there and that was enough for me. I was a little confused to hear that Hugh Jackman was hosting. Him, really? He’s just not exactly that funny. And he really shouldn’t try to be. He tried to wow me with sing and dance intro, introducing the nominated movies. The twist: he constructed the recession budget set in his garage, or so the joke went. Luckily, Jackman didn’t appear too much later on, except for a bizarre medley of Broadway musical tunes that seemed to serve no purpose.
Other things that annoyed me — I get trying to honor all the best-actor/actress nominees but it was a little unnecessary for five former winners to present each award and give a mini-speech for each nominee. During the clips for best picture, why did they (they being the people who put together the Oscars) feel the need to insert clips from older movies that they thought related to other movies. It was kinda seemed unnecessary, and took away from the movies being nominated. Also, what was up with the two incredibly long series of clips related to action movies and romance? It just seemed a little over the top, for a nearly four-hour awards ceremony.
But I obviously watch these things, so I must love to hate. What do I love about the awards? The arrivals. The best and worst dressed. The ridiculous red carpet “reporters.” And yes, beneath it all, I do love the movies. To inspires me to see as many Oscar nominated movies as I can before the big night so I can be well-informed. I love it when my pick wins (go Sean Penn) and the story of the underdog (Mickey Rourke).
