WSU gets tough first round matchup
By Devin Rokyta on Mon, Mar 16, 2009
Washington State won’t be playing in the NCAA tournament, but they will be playing a NCAA caliber team in the first round of the NIT tonight in Moraga, Calif. - the St. Mary’s Gaels.
The Gaels will be tough first round matchup for the Cougars and will be looking to deliver a message to the NCAA selection committee, not that it matters, but I am sure a win will make them feel a little better after getting left out of the field of 64 despite a 26-6 record.
Don’t forget that 26-6 record also is a bit misleading. Four of their losses came while the Gaels star guard Patrick Mills was out with a broken wrist, and three of their defeats came at the hands of Gonzaga.
WSU and St. Mary’s tip off at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Gaels point guard is Patrick Mills - not Wells.

Patty Mills is the best player on the SMC Gaels team - but Carlin Hughes is the cutest!
