No Twilight for me

I kind of knew as I placed the new DVD release, “Twilight” at the front of my Netflix queue, that it wasn’t going to be great. It was just one of those things where I had to satisfy my curiosity. The obsessed teenaged girls, the appearance of Robert Pattinson (I think he’s creepy looking!) on the scene, the best selling book series. What was all this about? I must confess, a copy of Twilight is currently sitting on my night table at home, waiting to be cracked open one of these days. To be fair, I am not a fan of vampire literature, movies, or TV shows. I just don’t see the appeal. But I will admit to devouring the Harry Potter book series and enjoying the movies. Not exactly vampire fiction, but about as unrealistic as you can go.
I just found the storyline (beyond the vampire thing) completely unrealistic. Main character and high school student Bella falls in love with Edward, a vampire she sits next to in biology class. Although it was supposed to be a passionate love, I didn’t really believe their chemistry and connection. And was it just me, or was it really creepy that Edward would randomly appear in Bella’s room watching her sleep or following her around town? I didn’t fall into the whole “mysteriously sexy” trap. The special effects were pretty lame too. In times where on screen technology is rapidly improving, Edward’s running, jumping and tree-climbing and the blurring looks pretty dated.
But feel free to check it out for yourself!

I was raised in Forks and to tell you the truth the first time I started watching Twilight was not impressed and I stopped watching it about a third of the way through, but I did decide to give it one more try and watched it again with an open mind because I am very much a realistic person and usually only watch real to life movies. The second time around I found it interesting and I did like the special effects!

The movie was absolutely terrible, but I suggest reading the books. Your imagination will likely paint a better picture than they managed to do in the movie.

Well, I will have to give the books a read. They’re on my “to do” list.

Don’t let the movie disuade you from the Twilight franchise. Being an almost 40 something, I was completely against reading anything to do with the storyline. Alas, I was sucked in and found the entire storyline to be quite engaging. I admit that I didn’t feel entranced or basically obsessed with the series until book 3.
As for the movie, I was quite disappointed the first time I saw it. I have to admit, upon the second viewing, I enjoyed it much more. Keep in mind, the movie was filmed a year before the “Twilight Explosion” really hit. It was a small , low budget independent film that was really just made for the genre. It was never expected to be what it became. Taking that with a grain of salt, I forgave the flaws of the first movie, but definatley have high hopes for Chris Weitz’s version of the second installment, New Moon.
Try the books and keep in mind the 1st one does have the flavor of a teen romance but they each get increasingly better. Especially the 3rd + 4th, with a considerable amount of fight scenes and action.
Enjoy

It’s nice to know that so many people have such strong opinions on “Twilight.” Thanks for the feedback? As for Sissy — You had to go there? I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.
