Bargain books

Money

While wandering to work today, I decided to stop into TJ’s Books and Treasures, a little used-book store I’ve been passing regularly since moving to the west side of Moscow earlier this month.

I’d been inside before, but it had been years — and long before I had a baby to buy books for.

The first thing I spotted when I walked into the store’s kid’s area was a lightly loved copy of “The Cat in the Hat,” one of the top books on my “books I need to get for Henry” list.

I snapped it up and opened the front cover to check the price…

$2.

Just $2! New on Amazon.com, it’s $9. And when you’re a bit of a book-hoarder like me, every dollar counts.

So, “The Cat in the Hat” has been added to the overflowing bookshelf in the little guy’s room. Alongside it are other bargain finds — “Busy Chickens,” found among the used kid’s books at BookPeople of Moscow; “Walter’s Wardrobe,” a yard-sale find; “Fuzzy! Fuzzy! Fuzzy!” from an online sale — and of course the dozens of books from my childhood that lived in my mom’s kindergarten classroom until Henry was born and now are mine again, absolutely free!

And, as always, Henry and I can head to our friendly public library when we’re in need of some new books for no money.

Any other places you can think of to find good deals on great kids’ books? Cause I still have just a little room on that bookshelf!
