Twitter, Twitter, Tweat
By Steve McClure on Wed, Jul 1, 2009
We’ve opened up another avenue to deliver information to people with a Twitter page for people to follow online. It’s not exactly revolutionary, but it’s a new step for us as we experiment with ways to pass along information to readers.
My guess is we’ll use it as a spot to let people know what’s breaking at DNews.com and — every now and then — in our blogs. We also will try to let people know what they can expect in the next day’s print edition and online.
I also was quickly corrected when I tried to use Twitter as a verb. The rolled eyes were my first clue that Twitter needs to remain a noun.
“It’s Tweat,” the 20-somethings told me.
Even older dogs can learn this.
On another topic, some of you might have seen the story about our quest for public records from the chairman of Idaho’s House Resources Committee. I’ve talked about access to public records on this blog before, particularly the hurdles placed in front of those who try to keep tabs on how government operates. I’ll post more on this particular case in the next few days — even as some try to dismiss this as some fishing expedition or agenda-driven exercise.
That’s ludicrous.
It’s about the public’s right to know what is being done on their behalf. Idaho’s public records law has allowed this type of abuse to take place and the courts need to remedy the attitude that’s driving these practices.
