Injuries mounting for Cougars

Injuries are once again mounting for an already thin Washington State football team.
Neither side of the ball has been immune. On defense, the linebacker crew is without two starters – Andy Mattingly and Alex Hoffman-Ellis – while four key wide receivers – Jeshua Anderson, Daniel Blackledge, Jeffrey Solomon and Johnny Forzani – have been either held out of practice or limited to non-contact drills.
WSU coach Paul Wulff is most concerned about the injuries at the receiver position.
“The concern is we too many (injuries) at receiver and in one particular position, and it is just making it so much harder on the players who are left,” Wulff said. “So we have to slow down some of the things we do in practice.”
The biggest and most worrisome injury at the position is that to Anderson, who has been hampered with a hamstring injury. Anderson struggled with similar issues through much of the spring’s track and field season.
Wulff offered no real time-table for Anderson’s return to full practice.
At linebacker, Mattingly’s injury – a minor groin strain – isn’t believed to be too serious, but the outlook for Hoffman-Ellis and his foot injury is unknown.
