According to ClevelandIndians.com, Cleveland signed Washington State closer Jeremy Johnson. The Indians selected the right-handed junior earlier this month in the 13th round of the MLB first year player draft. Johnson had one more year of eligibility remaining at WSU, but the allure of pro-ball must have been too tempting.

WSU baseball players honored for academics

WSU senior catcher Greg Lagreid and junior utility player Matt Fanelli were selected to the 2009 Pacific-10 Baseball All-Academic First Team. It is the second-straight year both Lagreid and Fanelli were named to the first team. Lagreid posted a 3.48 grade point average in finance, while Fanelli had a 3.77 GPA in psychology.
