Deary Fire District finally gets some space

May 27, 2009, 4:15 pm

After three years of administrative manuevering the Deary Fire District, with a crew of more than 25 fire and ambulance volunteers, are getting a little breathing room.

Construction recently got under way for a new, 3000-square-foot building that will serve as additional space to help supplement the town’s original fire hall, which has been used in some capacity by the fire district since its formation in the late 1940s.

Funding for the project, which started construction two weeks ago, comes from a $500,000 grant/loan package received this spring, with $250,000 coming from the USDA in the form of a loan and the remainder coming as a grant from the Idaho Department of Commerce.

The package was put together project administrator and Moscow City Councilman Walter Steed. It draws from some of the same pools of money that Potlatch and Onaway are using to help fund a combined $8.5 million in sewer system overhauls.
