Coronor: Alcohol 'definitely' played role in WSU student's death

June 5, 2009, 2:33 pm

Whitman County Coroner Peter Martin said a toxicology report shows that alcohol “definitely” factored into the May death of Washington State University student Stuart J. Robertson.

The 21-year-old Robertson fell to his death off a 40-foot cliff about one-quarter mile east of Bishop Boulevard in Pullman, according to police.

Martin declined to say what Robertson’s blood-alcohol level was at the time of his death. He plans to provide that information when he files his official report next week.

“Alcohol definitely played a role,” Martin said. “It’s sad, but unfortunately we see this all the time.”

Robertson’s body was found at about 5:30 a.m. May 2 by a motorist passing along the Pullman-Moscow Highway just east of campus.

Witnesses told police Robertson was last seen at a party Friday night at a nearby apartment complex.

Robertson came to WSU from Bend, Ore. He was majoring in viticulture/enology.
