Two WSU football players arrested on theft, burglary charges

June 10, 2009, 11:08 am

Two Washington State University football players were arrested Monday in relation to several thefts reported on College Hill.

Leandre L. Daniels and Tyree J. Toomer, both 19, were still in custody at the Whitman County Jail in Colfax at 11 a.m. today on charges of second degree burglary, residential burglary and theft in the second and third degrees.

WSU Lt. Steve Hansen said witnesses contacted police shortly before 3 p.m. Monday to report two men had been seen taking bicycles from a gated area underneath Regents Hall. Upon further investigation, police apprehended Daniels and Toomer near Stadium Way and Myrtle Drive and located the bicycles at their shared residence on Northeast Williams Drive. Hansen said the men were cooperative.

A hacksaw also was located at their residence, which had been reported stolen from a nearby home construction site, Hansen said.

Formal charges against Daniels and Toomer will be determined by the Whitman County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Ah, the rich variety, diversity and value varsity athletics brings to college life. It's a good thing we give our support to deep thinkers like this instead of a bunch of useless scientists and engineers. Their contributions are much more likely to be of use to our society in the long run.
