UI to close Parma research center

The University of Idaho’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences has announced its intention to close the Parma Research and Extension Center.

Dean John Hammel announced in January that the college would examine all of its research and extension centers and most likely close two to cope with budget cuts and the economic downturn.

The center will be closed by Dec. 31, according to a memo released Tuesday. The closure will result in the loss of 16 employees.

Research at the center, located one mile north of Parma, Idaho, focuses on the production and storage of vegetables, forages, cereals, hops, mint, fruit and seed crops.

    This is beginning to look more and more like the University of North Idaho or perhaps Moscow State College. Close everything in South Idaho and then wonder why you get no support from the state's population centers.
