Nearly $2 million in ticket and fine money owed to Whitman County

The number is small compared to many other county and municipal courts in the state. Still, Court Adminstrator Marlynn Markely and County Commissioner Greg Partch acknowledged having such a large untapped revenue stream is frustrating at a time when the county is still $250,000 in the hole.
Like most court districts in the state, Whitman County uses an outside collection agency to recoup the unpaid fines. However, Markely said in all honesty there is only so much the county can do to go after deliquent payers.
