Latah landowners see grasshopper infestation
July 30, 2009, 3:53 pm
This is the second summer in a row that the insects have invaded areas surrounding parts of Troy, Deary, Princeton, and Harvard, said Latah County Extension Educator Cinda Williams.
Deary resident Roy Mills said the insects are taking down any and all vegetation at a rapid rate.
“They eat everything,” he said laughing. “Really anything that’s green they go after.”
Williams said the swarms appear to be even more prevalent this year and are particularly troublesome for farmers with extensive pasture and rangeland.
