September 11, 2009, 12:03 pm
According to a Whitman County Sheriff’s Office news release, Jerry Chastain, 57, was reported missing at about 7 p.m. Thursday Deputies were told Chastain left his home in LaCrosse on his 2005 Honda FSC600 motorcycle at about 2 p.m. bound for Cheney.
Family members reported that Chastain never arrived at his destination, and deputies and Chastain’s family members retraced his presumed route in search of the missing motorcyclist.
At about 11:30 p.m. Thursday a family member noticed what he suspected to be a motorcycle tire mark on the shoulder of Winona South Road near milepost 3. Chastain and his motorcycle were located at the bottom of the ditch, which was overgrown with high grass.
Chastain was not able to move from the location due to back and shoulder injuries, according to the release, and neither he nor his motorcycle were visible from the roadway.
Chastain was initially transported by ambulance to the Endicott football field, where he was airlifted to Spokane via MedStar.
