Port of Whitman receives $1 million grant from state

October 4, 2007, 9:03 am

The Port of Whitman County was recently named as one of five agencies to receive a $1 million grant from the Washington State Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development.

The money will help the port to perpetuate a Innovation Partnership Zone, designed to develop and promote regional economies throughout the state. The port will use the success of the Pullman Industrial Park to recruit more businesses to the area.

Debbie Snell, port properties and development manager, said the zone designation and partnerships with Washington State University, the city of Pullman and established, successful local business, could make Pullman a pocket for innovation. The $1 million will be used to expand the park and create a marketing plan.
