ELECTION 2009: Zehm, Arrasmith, Baggott lead Palouse City Council races

November 3, 2009, 9:20 pm

Two of the three contested Palouse City Council races were relatively tight following Tuesday’s first round of counting, with Randy A. Zehm leading Cecil R. Floyd 148 votes (53 percent) to 131 votes (47 percent) in the Position 3 race and David Arrasmith leading Roger Marcus 140 votes (52 percent) to 128 votes (48 percent) in the Position 7 race.

Darcie Baggott leads Dixie Lee Reber 194 votes (68 percent) to 92 votes (32 percent) in their Position 4 race.

Two measures on the Palouse ballot also received early support. Proposition 1, which funds street improvements and street oiling, has received 210 “yes” votes (70 percent) and 90 “no” votes (30 percent). Proposition 2, which provides money for operation and maintenance of the city’s swimming pool, has received 229 “yes” votes (76 percent) and 72 “no” votes (24) percent.

In Colton, a levy for general operations and improvement of the town streets and water system, has received 85 “yes” votes (70 percent) and 36 “no” votes (30 percent).

Ballots had to be postmarked by 5 p.m. Tuesday to be counted, and Whitman County election officials estimate there are 2,500 ballots still to be counted countywide. Updated election results are expected to be released at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
