Ed board approves UI-Simplot extension agreement

December 10, 2009, 11:11 am

The Idaho State Board of Education has unanimously given the University of Idaho the go-ahead to enter a five-year, $1.5 million agreement with the J.R. Simplot Company that will keep the UI’s Parma Research and Extension Center operational through 2014.

Under the terms of the agreement, Simplot researchers will have access to research labs, other facilities and up to half of the 100 acres of land at the Parma center. In exchange, Simplot will pay the UI $300,000 per year through 2014 to keep the center operational.

UI College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Dean John Hammel also told the board Thursday that enough external funding has been secured to keep the UI’s Tetonia and Sandpoint centers open through June 30.
