December 29, 2009, 11:58 am
John C. Balka, 30, was driving his 1991 Oldsmobile 88 north on U.S. Highway 95 at excessive speeds when he crashed into a guard rail, according to the Idaho State Police.
Balka's car flipped onto its top, and he was ejected from the vehicle. The ISP, Latah County Sheriff and Fire, Moscow Ambulance and Idaho Transporatation Department all responded to the crash site about 6:25 p.m.
Balka was transported to Gritman Medical Center in Moscow before later being transported to Sacred Heart by MedStar. He was in critical condition Tuesday morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The ISP said Balka was not wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol is being investigated as a factor in the crash.
