Whitman County health officials confirm girls has infection associated with menengitis

She was seen in the Pullman Regional Hospital Emergency Department on March 6, and the laboratory tests confirmed she had the infection March 10.
She was stabilized and transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
N. meningitidies is a bacteria that causes a contagious infection in the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It can also cause infections of the blood or lungs.
Timothy Moody, a health officer with the department, said the girl went to the Washington State University Children’s Center.
Moody said the department was in the process of contacting the parents of the other children that attend the center to inform them of the case.
