Suspect named, charges forwarded in Kristen Grindley case
July 1, 2010, 10:58 am
Sheriff Brett Myers said investigators had enough evidence today to forward failure to report an injury accident charges against Richard Pasma, 24. Failure to report an accident, a class C felony, carries a maximum jail sentence of five years.
Pasma, Grindley’s boyfriend at the time of incident, has been a suspect since the November incident, Myers said.
“We feel as though with the information we have there is a crime and that this is the appropriate charge,” Myers said. “In this particular case we don’t necessarily have evidence to suggest that there was intent, we do believe that he was aware of (what happened).”
Because Pasma has nearly clean criminal background, he could face around nine-months in jail if found guilty, Myers said. Because of the extent of Grindley’s injuries, however, Whitman County Prosecutor, Denis Tracy may be seeking a longer sentence if Pasma is convicted, Myers said.
