COLFAX: County courthouse closed after cleaning accident
May 9, 2008, 2:55 pm
Public Health Director Fran Martin said a cleanser containing sulfuric acid that was being used to clear a clogged drain is to blame for the incident.
Martin said the vapors could be hazardous to a person’s respiratory system, but no one in the courthouse exhibited any ill effects from exposure. However, officials elected to close the courthouse as a precautionary measure.
The vapors were first noticed around 1 p.m. and the decision to close the building was made soon after, Martin said.
“We felt it was the prudent thing to do to send everyone home,” she said.
The building was ventilated Friday and should reopen Monday morning.
