Idaho state agencies may face an additional 1.5-percent budget cut
November 10, 2008, 5:44 pm
In September, the DFM and Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter ordered all state agencies to reduce spending immediately, cut their budgets for fiscal year 2009 by 1 percent and hold an additional 1.5 percent in reserve.
The memo, sent by Wayne Hammon of the DFM, states:
"Since that time we all have witnessed the continuing decline of the nation’s economy. And while Idaho may be better off than most, it is not immune from these harsh realities."
Hammon then asked agencies to take another look at their 1.5 percent reserve holdback plans.
"Accordingly, I am asking each of you to review the 1.5% holdback plan you submitted in September and to notify DFM of any modifications you believe to be necessary no later than noon on Friday, November 14."
UI Provost Doug Baker said university administrators will have to accelerate their examination of the budget, as the memo indicated the DFM is likely to order the cut.
