Federal money helps more Pullman families with energy costs

The Community Action Center in Pullman received double its normal allocation from the federal government for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program and is spending it steadily.

The agency was awarded $1.2 million for the 2008-09 season and already has used it to help more families than ever before.

In 2008, the program provided $654,506 to 1,205 households and 2,994 individuals in Whitman County. So far this year 1,296 households consisting of 3,103 individuals have been awarded money, and 88 percent of the energy assistance funds have been spent.
